The Seattle company FINNE Architects designed the Deschutes house on a narrow land facing the Deschutes River in Oregon. The design must include a stone platform that is close to and hovered a few inches above the water. In order to maximize the view of the surrounding rivers, all major spaces are open to the water.
The house’s outer shell is covered with red cedar, with natural wood color and corrugated metal siding, creating a perfect contrast between warm and cold metal.
The main living area is open, with 8× on both sides of the living space; an 8-inch sliding glass panel with a river on one side and a yard on the other.
The kitchen island has a suspended glass cabinet with LED lighting.
The open staircase is made of steel, glass and wood and has a sculptural look.
